Let’s get this part out of the way: Emily Labowe looks a lot like Jane Birkin. Their resemblance has been the subject of countless interviews with Emily–but we’re not here to go on and on about her tousled bangs and French-girl style. There’s more to Emily than meets the eye; like the fact that she embroiders underwear in her spare time and would be an anthropologist if she wasn’t modeling. Clearly, she’s not content to rest on her perfect bone structure. Intrigued? Read on to discover a different side of Emily Labowe.
FAME: How would you describe your style in three words?
Emily: Comfortable, simple, Air Force 1s
FAME: When do you feel most creative? What are your favorite outlets for creativity?
Emily: When I’m using my hands or making something physically. Embroidering underwear, drawing, Color Me Mine, playing drums, cooking…
FAME: You embroider underwear in your spare time (@poppyundies). How did this get started, and where do you find inspiration for the embroidered phrases?
Emily: My mom taught me how to embroider a few years ago and I fell in love with it. I love focusing on something really detailed. I started embroidering on underwear. Mostly phrases and designs that I personally like or find funny, and that are mainly female focused. I want to make empowering comfy undies a gal can walk around her house in feeling confident and beautiful. I also make custom ones so some of the pairs are ideas from other ladies.
FAME: You’re often compared to Jane Birkin–what are the pros & cons to having a super-famous doppelganger?
Emily: It’s a major compliment. Not only is she beautiful, but so multitalented, a mother, and a strong female role model. I get mistaken for being French a lot, and unfortunately I don’t speak French very well, but I’ll take it.
FAME: Do you have a “power outfit”–a look that always makes you feel good, no matter what?
Emily: Yes. For me it’s a a white tee tucked in to jeans and sneakers or boots. It’s classic, clean and simple. Or a slim fit suit.
FAME: What were your favorite Fame and Partners pieces from the shoot?
Emily: I loved the pink long wrap around dress. It’s beautiful and elegant yet I can see dressing it down with a pair of Chucks for a simple outfit on the go.
FAME: If you weren’t modeling, what would you be doing?
Emily: Anthropology documentarian.
