Hey guys! It’s Mariel from Polydeux.com. I’m a fashion/lifestyle influencer, dancer, second-degree black belt, matcha maniac and I run Polydeux full-time with my boyfriend/business partner/photographer @justinquebral.

I recently chopped my hair and haven’t looked back since. Getting a lob has forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and made my outfits instantly edgier–yes, even evening wear.

3 ways to edge up your evening gown.

1. Try pairing it with shorter heels, ankle boots or even sneakers. I opted for pointed toe flats with a tiny wedge heel. With the slit in the gown, I didn’t need to make myself look taller. Instead, I showed off the perfect amount of skin with a conservative shoe, giving a different take of the traditional styling of gowns.

2. Dress it down without sacrificing too much of the outfit. Wear with a wide-brimmed hat, a shearling coat or a cropped moto jacket for a juxtaposition of textures and shapes. It makes the gown more flirty than sexy which, of course, is still sexy but in a different way.

3. Lastly, accessorize with the right jewelry! Wear dainty pieces with a loud dress or statement earrings or necklaces with a minimal gown. In fact, you can completely ditch the arm candy and have the perfect textured or colored clutch in tow. A furry purse or red, snakeskin envelope clutch can add dimension to any outfit.

While there are tons of different ways to add extra oomph to an outfit, don’t be afraid to experiment. Figuring out what you don’t like is always the first step. It makes it easier to find out what you do like and what works for you. The only accessory you need for any outfit is confidence.
